Dainese Smart GO: A New Era of Everyday Motorcycle Airbag Protection

Dainese is redefining motorcycle airbag technology with the introduction of the Smart GO, an innovative electronic airbag vest designed to make advanced rider protection lighter, more practical and more accessible than ever before.

Combining Level 2 chest and back protection, an exceptionally lightweight construction and a revolutionary power system, the Smart GO aims to remove some of the biggest barriers to everyday airbag use – without compromising on safety.

Weighing just 780g, including its gas generator, the Smart GO is designed for riders who want the reassurance of advanced protection without the bulk, weight or charging routines traditionally associated with electronic airbag systems.

Lightweight, breathable and built for every ride

One of the Smart GO’s biggest innovations is its compact, lightweight design. At just 780g, it represents a significant reduction in weight compared with Dainese’s previous airbag offerings, helping to deliver a more natural riding experience.

Its ventilated construction is designed to improve airflow on warmer days, while its packable design makes it easy to carry and store when off the bike. Whether tucked into a backpack, stored in a motorcycle bag or stowed beneath a scooter seat, the Smart GO is built around the practical demands of everyday mobility.

The adjustable, one-size design accommodates a range of body shapes, with straps allowing riders to customise the fit. It can also be worn over or beneath a motorcycle or casual jacket, offering flexibility across different riding styles and conditions.

Importantly, the Smart GO provides integrated airbag protection for the chest and back, certified to Level 2 under the EN 1621-4 standard, without requiring a separate rigid back protector.

Advanced protection, without the charging routine

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the Dainese Smart GO is its power system. Unlike conventional electronic airbag systems that require a dedicated charging routine, the Smart GO can be powered by a compatible USB-C smartphone supporting OTG (On-The-Go) functionality.

Alternatively, riders can use Dainese’s dedicated ultra-slim power bank, which provides up to 72 hours of riding autonomy. The power source connects via a USB-C cable housed in the vest’s large pocket, while the system is managed through the Dainese D-air® app via Bluetooth®.

The result is a system designed to integrate more naturally into a rider’s daily routine, reducing the need to carry and charge yet another dedicated electronic device.

As a fully electronic system, the Smart GO requires no physical connection to the motorcycle. Its D-air® algorithm, developed for road riding and light off-road use, autonomously detects dangerous riding dynamics and activates the airbag protection in milliseconds when required.

The gas generator can also be replaced by the user up to three times, offering a practical approach to maintaining the system following deployment, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

From the motorcycle to everyday life

Dainese has also developed a dedicated 15-litre water-resistant backpack to complement the Smart GO, bringing additional versatility to the system.

Featuring an innovative magnetic attachment mechanism, the backpack connects seamlessly to the airbag vest and can be attached or removed in seconds. Riders can carry their everyday essentials as normal, with the added convenience of a system designed to move effortlessly between life on and off the bike.

It is an approach that reflects the Smart GO’s wider philosophy: making protective technology feel less like an extra piece of motorcycle equipment and more like a natural part of the riding experience.

Making advanced airbag protection more accessible

Beyond its technical innovations, the Smart GO has been developed with accessibility in mind. Dainese says a complete reinvention of the airbag’s industrial design, patented technologies, supply chain and manufacturing processes has helped make the system more affordable.

The Smart GO airbag vest, including its gas generator, is priced at £329, bringing electronic airbag protection to a lower price point than many riders may expect.

Additional accessories include the dedicated power bank at £35, a replacement gas generator at £59 and the 15-litre water-resistant backpack at £119.

Its adjustable, one-size construction also means a single vest can accommodate multiple family members, potentially reducing the need to purchase separate airbag systems for every rider.

A smarter approach to rider safety

With the Smart GO, Dainese is challenging the idea that advanced airbag protection needs to be heavy, bulky or complicated to use. By combining lightweight construction, Level 2 chest and back protection, smartphone-compatible power and everyday versatility, it brings a fresh perspective to electronic rider safety.

The ambition is straightforward: to make wearing an airbag a more natural part of every ride, whether commuting across town, heading out for a weekend ride or exploring light off-road routes.

For riders who have previously been put off by the weight, inconvenience or cost of existing systems, the Dainese Smart GO could represent a significant step forward in making advanced protection part of everyday motorcycling.
